History

1899 Richardsonian Queen Anne
R. Newton Brezee, architect
“R. Newton Brezee designed this house for Willis and Abbie Kendrick in 1899. According to that year’s city directories, Mr. Kendrick, a pharmicist and manufacturer of, “Spruce Remedies,” moved from 3 Marion Place to No. 19 in October 1899. The house, which remained in the Kendrick family for almost 100 years, is an outstanding example of Richardsonian Queen Anne style of the late Victorian period in architecture (1880-1895) in transition to the Colonial Revival style. It is a massive stone, brick and shingled 2-story house with a large semi-circular wrapped porch and Richardson arches.”

Extended History

A Timeless Gem in Saratoga Springs

The moment you step through the grand entryway of 19 Marion Place, you are enveloped in the history and refined elegance of the Victorian era.

This Newton Bresee-designed masterpiece, standing proudly since 1899, is more than a home—it is a living testament to craftsmanship and timeless beauty.

The six-bedroom, five-bath estate showcases well-preserved details while being tastefully modernized. Hardwood floors gleam beneath 9-foot ceilings, reflecting the natural light that spills through the many lovely windows, including the dining room’s south-facing bay window. A stately fireplace, its mantel crowned with an ornate mirror, anchors the inviting entryway, which leads to the second floor in grand style and opens, through original French doors, into the formal living room.

The living room flows into the formal dining room, a space designed for large gatherings beneath the glow of an antique chandelier.

An additional set of French doors leads to the family room—a perfect place to relax daily. This room connects seamlessly to the heart of the home: the expansive kitchen. A granite-topped island invites culinary creativity, while the adjoining butler’s pantry, adorned with glass cabinetry, displays fine china and collected treasures. There is also a charming breakfast area and space for a large center island.

From the foyer, a grand Victorian staircase draws the eye upward. A true work of art, it beckons one to pause and sit a while on the built-in bench tucked beneath a breathtaking stained-glass window at its wide landing. It’s a space for quiet reflection—a pause in time before ascending to the private bedroom retreats above.

The primary suite is a haven of relaxation, featuring an en-suite spa bath with a clawfoot tub, separate shower, charming porch, and a generous walk-in closet. Four additional bedrooms offer ample space and character for family and guests; two of the larger bedrooms feature expansive bay windows. Conveniently located on the second floor are two additional, fully updated bathrooms.

A back staircase, located off the kitchen, leads to the spacious third floor with the sixth bedroom and fourth full bath. This level includes the required sprinkler system and offers endless possibilities—a serene guest escape, rec room, pool table space, art studio, or yoga sanctuary.

Equally enchanting is the outdoor space. The wraparound porch—one of Saratoga Springs’ finest—extends an invitation to linger. Enjoy morning coffee beneath its sheltering eaves, or sip cocktails as twilight settles in after a day at the track.

The lawn is a private oasis, where lush gardens bloom in vibrant color, a crystal-blue pool shimmers in the summer sun, and stone patios set the stage for laughter-filled evenings and outdoor dining.

An attached pool house and carriage house stand as enduring symbols of the home’s grandeur, adding both character and functionality. The heated garage, affectionately dubbed the “Man Cave,” is a space for games, gatherings, and endless possibilities. A large, private outdoor shower is a delightful bonus.

What truly sets 19 Marion Place apart is its location—mere steps from the historic Saratoga Race Course and just six blocks from Broadway, where boutique shops, fine dining, and lively entertainment create a vibrant year-round atmosphere. On Saturdays, the Farmer’s Market comes alive with local delights, while the nearby Spring Run Trail offers peaceful walks amid nature’s beauty.

This home is more than an exquisite residence—it is a piece of Saratoga Springs history, a sanctuary of beauty, comfort, and unparalleled charm. Whether as a beloved home, a summer getaway, or a lucrative investment, its next chapter is waiting to be written.
